At the short and feature film festival “Europa Film Festival” (2021) in Barcelona (Spain) and Resistencia (Argentina), Stanka Gjurić’s film ‘Lavograd’ (Lioncity) received the award for Best Children’s Feature Film.
The jury’s explanation stated: “It is never easy to see through the eyes of a child. When we grow up, we tend to forget about our childhood, especially about the way we thought. However, the director managed to encourage us all to once again get closer to the way she sees the child, which is why she has exceptional and very emotional merits. An excellent story because of its simplicity and the ability to approach the viewer.”

The fifteen-minute film for children, poets and filmmaker Stanka Gjurić, “Lavograd”, shot in Čakovec, entered the competition part of the Europa Film Festival, which takes place in Barcelona (Spain) and Resistencia (Argentina) at the end of March this year. However, due to the situation with the coronavirus, the films will be shown online.

Stanka’s poetry was translated into Chinese, but Stanka had the poetry of Hong Kong poet Agnes SL Lam, who translated Stanka’s poems, translated into Croatian.
Born in Hong Kong, Agnes SL Lam (林舜玲) is a Chinese poet who writes in English. Her publications include Personal Collections, Woman to Woman and Other Poems 《女人 間 的心聲 和 下载詩歌(1997), Water Wood Pure Shine 《水木 清華》 （2001), Pond in the Sky 《天空之池》 （2013) and Poppies with highway 《公州 旁 的紅罌粟》 （2017). For many years she has been invited to publish her poetry in international magazines and anthologies; some of her works have been translated into German, Italian and other languages. An Honorary Fellow of the University of Iowa in America and a Visiting Fellow at the University of Cambridge, Lam has been awarded the Nosside World Poetry Prize (Special Mention) based in Italy and endorsed by UNESCO. In her early years, she went abroad to study in Singapore and America. After her doctorate at the University of Pittsburgh, she taught at the National University of Singapore and the University of Hong Kong. As a professor at HKU, she supervised doctoral students and was the extraordinary dean of the Faculty of Philosophy. In addition to writing poetry, she was also a researcher. Her recent book Becoming Poets: The Asian English Experience (2014) presents the creative lives of 50 Asian poets writing in English.

On February 24,
the Confederation of Libraries ‘Ivy Plus’ ( a professional network of former students from the world’s best universities ) selected Stanka Gjurić’s website for inclusion in its Archive of literary authors from Europe and Eurasia. The archive is an initiative developed by librarians from Columbia University, Harvard University, Princeton University and Yale University, in partnership (as the ‘Ivy Plus’ Library Confederation), with Brown University, University of Chicago, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Duke University, Johns Hopkins University and the University of Pennsylvania. The goal of the project is to collect websites related to literary authors (fiction, non-fiction works and poetry), translators, critics and publishers from Europe and Eurasia (including Western, Central and Eastern Europe and the countries of the former Soviet Union), with the aim of preserving the history of the contemporary literary process which is reflected in the online publishing activities of important literary figures and organizations.

Stanke Gjurić’s short film for children, “Lioncity/Lavograd”, at the ‘Teknochat Film Festival’ in Spain (Barcelona) in 2020, won the ‘Best Fiction’ award. By the way, at that festival, as every year so far, prizes were awarded in the following categories: Best screenplay, Best actress/actor, Best director, Best feature film, Best music, Best animation, up to the Audience Award, etc.
The film was shot in Čakovec, and it shows a city that was taken over by lions, and which, in cooperation with nature, is defended by a thirteen-year-old boy.

“The view of events from the perspective of a child is not easy to transfer to cinematography. In this film, we can experience the action in the first person as if we were children ourselves. Like the main character, we enter his world and understanding. Very good art direction and acting. Natural and diaphanous scenes. Very good lighting.

Stanka Gjurić’s film, ‘Perfect Tattoo’, recently won the award in the category of the best fiction film at the ‘Summer Film Festival’ (Barcelona/Argentina). Fifteen countries from three continents participated in the festival under the common name ‘4 Seasons Film Festival’. Review of the film ‘Perfect Tattoo’ by the expert jury: “A great feature film with a thriller ending. The black and white photography is polished to perfection, and as such brings concentration to every single scene. A very good choice. The rhythm of the film is in the crescendo, which helps the viewer to immerse himself in the story. At the same time, the film surprises with unexpected details.”

At the short and feature film festival “Europa Film Festival” (2021) in Barcelona (Spain) and Resistencia (Argentina), Stanka Gjurić’s film ‘Lavograd’ (Lioncity) received the award for Best Children’s Feature Film.
The jury’s explanation stated: “It is never easy to see through the eyes of a child. When we grow up, we tend to forget about our childhood, especially about the way we thought. However, the director managed to encourage us all to once again get closer to the way she sees the child, which is why she has exceptional and very emotional merits. An excellent story because of its simplicity and the ability to approach the viewer.”.

The fifteen-minute film for children, poets and filmmaker Stanka Gjurić, “Lavograd”, shot in Čakovec, entered the competition part of the Europa Film Festival, which takes place in Barcelona (Spain) and Resistencia (Argentina) at the end of March this year. However, due to the situation with the coronavirus, the films will be shown online.
On the occasion of the selection of Stanka’s film, and considering the topic it deals with (the danger that threatens people from the outside, which is why they remain locked in their homes), the ‘Teknochat’ platform conducted an interview with the author of the film, which was published on the Festival’s website.

Stanka’s poetry was translated into Chinese, but Stanka had the poetry of Hong Kong poet Agnes SL Lam, who translated Stanka’s poems, translated into Croatian.
Born in Hong Kong, Agnes SL Lam (林舜玲) is a Chinese poet who writes in English. Her publications include Personal Collections, Woman to Woman and Other Poems 《女人 間 的心聲 和 下载詩歌(1997), Water Wood Pure Shine 《水木 清華》 （2001), Pond in the Sky 《天空之池》 （2013) and Poppies with highway 《公州 旁 的紅罌粟》 （2017). For many years she has been invited to publish her poetry in international magazines and anthologies; some of her works have been translated into German, Italian and other languages. An Honorary Fellow of the University of Iowa in America and a Visiting Fellow at the University of Cambridge, Lam has been awarded the Nosside World Poetry Prize (Special Mention) based in Italy and endorsed by UNESCO. In her early years, she went abroad to study in Singapore and America. After her doctorate at the University of Pittsburgh, she taught at the National University of Singapore and the University of Hong Kong. As a professor at HKU, she supervised doctoral students and was the extraordinary dean of the Faculty of Philosophy. In addition to writing poetry, she was also a researcher. Her recent book Becoming Poets: The Asian English Experience (2014) presents the creative lives of 50 Asian poets writing in English.

the Confederation of Libraries ‘Ivy Plus’ (a professional network of former students from the world’s best universities) selected Stanka Gjurić’s website for inclusion in its Archive of literary authors from Europe and Eurasia. The archive is an initiative developed by librarians from Columbia University, Harvard University, Princeton University and Yale University, in partnership (as the ‘Ivy Plus’ Library Confederation), with Brown University, University of Chicago, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Duke University, Johns Hopkins University and the University of Pennsylvania. The goal of the project is to collect websites related to literary authors (fiction, non-fiction works and poetry), translators, critics and publishers from Europe and Eurasia (including Western, Central and Eastern Europe and the countries of the former Soviet Union), with the aim of preserving the history of the contemporary literary process which is reflected in the online publishing activities of important literary figures and organizations.

The film “Perfect Tattoo” by Stanka Gjurić, together with about seventy other films by authors from all over the world, entered the official selection of the ‘Vip Fest’, which shows a selection of the best films, among the thousands that arrived at film festivals in 2019, organized by the Teknochat platform from Barcelona (Spain). Participating in that festival means being one of the best in 2019, and the competition between all of them in 2020 takes place in the following categories: documentary, comedy, horror and thriller, animation and science fiction, experimental and erotic, and romantic and drama. Gjurić’s short film is in the horror and thriller category.
It is an event that takes place every year, and the competition includes the films themselves, as well as their directors, actors and/or screenwriters.
